A Year in Review: HFTP 2019 Annual Business Meeting Minutes

Last October, HFTP held its Annual Business Meeting during the 2019 Annual Convention at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida USA. The meeting was led by 2018-2019 HFTP Global President Scot Campbell, CHTP on Friday, October 25, 2019. The following are the minutes from that meeting, detailing the association's achievements of the past year and what the association had planned for 2020.

2019 HFTP Annual Business Meeting Minutes

Rosen Centre Hotel - President Scot Campbell, CHTP welcomed the HFTP members in attendance and called the Annual Business Meeting to order on October 25, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

President Scot Campbell, CHTP introduced the 2018-2019 Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Campbell recognized the Directors who completed their terms in 2019 and thanked them for their service. Outgoing Directors were recognized: Director Nick Price, Director Laurie Rozeski, CHAE, MBA, Director Derek Wood and Executive Advisor Stephanie Anderson, CHAE, CPA, CGMA.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frank Wolfe, CAE gave tribute to Immediate Past President Tim Nauss, CHAE. Wolfe highlighted that during Nauss' term as Global President, his presence in Asia helped HFTP establish its outreach in the region, with the HFTP Asia Research Center and at allied association events. Wolfe noted that also during Nauss' year as president, HFTP successfully purchased the copyright of the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI), a resource that has had a positive impact for the association since its purchase. Wolfe also presented Nauss with a plaque honoring his service and dedication to HFTP.

HFTP Global Treasurer Mark Pate Sr., CHAE, CHTP, MBA announced the minutes for the 2018 Annual Business Meeting held in Louisville, Kentucky USA. Pate referred members to the Annual Convention Meeting Minutes that were posted on HFTP News and called a motion to approve. A motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the 2018 Annual Business Meeting minutes as presented.

Treasurer's Report:

Treasurer Mark Pate Sr., CHAE, CHTP, MBA delivered the Treasurer's Report for the fiscal year that ended October 31, 2019. Pate informed the members to the anticipated operational revenue for the fiscal year HFTP anticipates operational revenues of approximately $8.51 million and operational expenses of approximately $8.61 million. Pate announced the realized gain of $122,000 and our unrealized gain on investments of $21,000 gives us a net expense of approximately $38,000 for the year.

Pate informed members that the HFTP Global Board of Directors approved the budget for 2020 with operational revenues of approximately $9.34 million and operational expenses of approximately $9.31 million, for a net revenue of approximately $34,000.

Pate informed the members that HFTP will continue to offer the same level of services and important programs to help all members and stakeholders with their professional pursuits.

Strategic Plan:

Vice President Michael Levie, CHTP started by mentioning some of HFTP's initiatives for 2020 including; HITEC Europe in Mallorca produced in cooperation with HTNG, HITEC San Antonio, and HITEC Dubai produced in partnership with Naseba; In addition, HFTP has added a new HITEC to the line-up: HITEC Asia in December, which will be produced in cooperation with HTNG. Levie went on to mention other events including the CIO and CFO Round Tables at HITEC Europe; Entrepreneur 20X (E20X) at both HITEC Europe and San Antonio; the Club Summit in March; the Club & Hotel Controllers Conference in June; the Club Forum; and the Annual Convention in Minneapolis. Levie noted that in addition to these HFTP Global Events, the HFTP chapters put together excellent regional conferences. Already scheduled for 2020 are the HFTP Mid-South Atlantic Regional and the HFTP Mid-West Regional Conference.

Levie also noted that HFTP certifications are getting an upgrade by moving the exam and management to new software. Levie finished by mentioning that HFTP Global will continue to provide important, custom content and research reports through its news sites: HFTP News, HITEC Bytes, Club Bytes, Finance Bytes, F&B Bytes and GDPR Bytes; as well as regularly published insight on the HFTP Connect blog.

President's Report:

President Scot Campbell, CHTP started the President's Report by noting that this has been a strong year for HFTP as it continues to strengthen its presence as an industry leader. Campbell shared with the membership that through rigorous research, council work, event planning and resource development, HFTP has been assiduously working towards the same goal this year as every year - to offer invaluable opportunities that set hospitality financial and technology professionals on the surest path towards career excellence.

Campbell shared a few triumphs that stood out during his tenure: the establishment of the HFTP Foundation; the inaugural HFTP Foundation Women in Hospitality Technology Luncheon; joining forces with HTNG to produce both HITEC Europe and the new HITEC Asia in cooperation with HTNG; and finally, purchasing the rights to the USALI.

Campbell informed the members that HFTP partnered with AHLA to form the Global Finance Committee for the Lodging Industry. Campbell informed the members that the co-sponsored committee is tasked to update and expand the current USALI 11th edition to include both U.S. and international standards. This new 12th edition will become the standard for financial and operating reporting for the lodging industry globally. Campbell finished the President's Report by thanking the HFTP staff, HFTP Board of Directors and HFTP members for their continued dedication to the association.

CEO Report:

CEO Frank Wolfe, CAE thanked the Annual Convention attendees and took a moment to recognize the HFTP Board of Directors for their hard work and dedication. Wolfe gave his report on the success of the association over the past year, and recognized and thanked President Scot Campbell, CHTP for his service to HFTP.

Wolfe announced that HFTP membership dues will remain the same for this fiscal year. Wolfe highlighted the following: the reinstated HFTP Chapter Leadership Workshop, the certification programs, the CIO and Executive Vendor Summit, the success of the Club Summit and the growing HFTP interest in the Central American region. Wolfe discussed future reports, research, and various advisory councils.

Wolfe announced Thomas Atzenhofer, CPA has been promoted to Deputy CEO of HFTP. Wolfe concluded his report by recognizing two HFTP staff members, Linnet Baskett and Eliza Selig for their twentieth year with HFTP. Wolfe thanked them for their unwavering dedication and service to the association.

Nominating Committee Report:

Immediate Past President Tim Nauss, CHAE discussed the Nominating Committee process. Nauss noted that the Nominating Committee met May 2019 in Dallas, Texas, USA. Nauss encouraged members to apply for the next year.

Nauss called upon Treasurer, Mark Pate Sr., CHAE, CHTP, MBA, to elect the 2019-2020 Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.

In accordance with Article X, Section 3, of the HFTP bylaws, Pate cast the single ballot for the 2019-2020 slate of directors, and declared the individuals mentioned below as duly elected. The uncontested slate of Board of Directors includes:

  • James E. Bina, CHAE+, CHTP
  • Arthur Burger, CHAE+
  • Andrew Buwalda, CHAE
  • Eileen Sarris, CPA, CHAE

In accordance with Article X, Section 3, of the HFTP bylaws, Pate cast the single ballot for the 2019-2020 slate of officers and declared the following individuals as duly elected to the HFTP Executive Committee:

  • President Michael Levie, CHTP
  • Vice President Mark Pate, Sr., CHAE, CHTP, MBA
  • Treasurer Neil Foster, CHTP, MBA (Not Present)
  • Secretary Stephanie Anderson, CHAE, CPA, CGMA
  • Immediate Past President Scot Campbell, CHTP

Pate informed the members that the Executive Committee would be installed later that night at the HFTP Annual Tribute to Success.

Adjourn:

There being no further business, a motion was made, seconded and carried to adjourn the meeting at 8:36 a.m.
