CHAE Certification: It Is More Than an Exam in Southwest Florida

The Florida Gulf Coast chapter achieved a major accomplishment this year: almost 26 percent of its membership has the CHAE certification. Activities this spring suggest the numbers will go higher. 10 members attended a CHAE information session in May, and everyone made a commitment to pass the exam.

The CHAE experience in Southwest Florida is a testament to what we hear about the exam. Member knowledge about accounting improves; bonds develop among members, and membership has a greater appreciation for HFTP.

The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter discovered something else: CHAE is an opportunity for leadership to reach out to membership; offer something of value; ultimately drive member participation. We made a targeted pitch to low-participation members, followed by an information session (our third in three years) and regular interaction with CHAE candidates.

And, much to our delight, many of these members now attend chapter activities. Ideally, some of these folks will bring friends and colleagues to future events and help us increase membership. Indeed, CHAE is more than an exam in Southwest Florida.
