HFTP Announces Team for Hospitality Program for Upcoming GDPR Compliance Deadline

2 April 2017
AMSTERDAM -- As hospitality companies conducting business in Europe prepare to make operational changes to conform with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Hospitality Financial and Technology Professional (HFTP(r)) has put together a team of experts to prepare supporting resources for the industry. Specifically, the association has recruited an advisory council to develop Hospitality Data Protection Officer (DPO) Guidelines along with a Hospitality Data Protection Officer certification program, with a release date of Summer 2017. A key requirement in the GDPR is that companies who handle large stores of sensitive personal information must assign a DPO, and it is estimated that this could open approximately 28,000 positions overall. Impacting both the finance and technology areas and with a required compliance date of May 25, 2018 for the GDPR, HFTP has deemed it critical to develop resources for hospitality technology operations which assist in installing this newly-mandatory position.HFTP, which produces HITEC(r) the oldest and largest hospitality technology conference and exposition, has expanded the brand internationally with three events in 2017. This includes the just concluded HITEC Amsterdam, March 28-30 with 1,121 attendees and 83 exhibitors and an education program with a unique European perspective. The GDPR and general data protection were top issues of discussion amongst the group of European technologists and highlighted the importance to HFTP leaders the importance to developing resources in advance of next year's deadline."By the nature of a hospitality business, hospitality companies now collect vast amounts of personal data to assist in providing seamless and personalized services to their guests. With that, in the coming year, hospitality technology operations doing business in Europe will need to focus on making compliance happen," said Frank Wolfe, CAE. "By making available these guidelines and directives from experts specifically knowledgeable with the hospitality space, HFTP is aiming to ease the unique protection challenges ahead."The mandate for the DPO is described in Article 39 of the GDPR and requires the position to inform and advise employees on requirements, ensure compliance and act as the contact point.HFTP currently offers two hospitality-specific certifications: the Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP(r)) and the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE(r)) each demonstrating competencies in finance and technology. This puts HFTP in a unique position to establish a hospitality-specific certification for DPOs. With a team of experts, HFTP will build a program that demonstrates an individual's competency for the position within a hospitality company. This year, HFTP will also produce its larger North American event HITEC Toronto from June 26-29 and HITEC Dubai from November 14-15, in partnership with Naseba. In 2018, HFTP will bring back HITEC Amsterdam on April 11-14 in addition to HITEC Houston on June 26-29.For more information about HITEC and HFTP's other global activities, contact the HFTP Meetings & Special Events Department at education@hftp.org or visit www.hftp.org and www.hftp.org/hitec/.About HFTP Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) is a global nonprofit hospitality association, headquartered in Austin, Texas, USA, that uniquely understands the industry's problems. The First Edition of HITEC Dubai will be Hosted by HFTP and Naseba in 2017

27 September 2016
Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP(r)) is a global hospitality association responsible for organizing the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition & Conference (HITEC(r)), the world's leading hospitality technology event. In partnership with Naseba, a business facilitation company based in Dubai, HFTP will now be bringing HITEC to the Middle East for the very first time. The most recent edition of HITEC in New Orleans, Louisiana USA gathered 6,395 hospitality professionals representing 65 countries. The conference hosted over 106 speakers in daily education sessions, and 867 exhibition booths showcasing the latest products and services of 342 exhibiting companies.HITEC has become a must-attend event for every major stakeholder and decision maker in the global hospitality industry. Now, with the introduction of HITEC Dubai, the platform will become accessible to buyers from the lucrative Middle Eastern tourism and hospitality market, currently worth over 75 billion USD.With occupancy rates and REVPar in the Middle East climbing to some of the highest levels seen worldwide since the 2008 global financial crisis, hotels in the region are fighting to distinguish themselves from competitors. Many are choosing to do so by offering a superior guest experience shaped by the latest technology and digital services. However, the region provides very few platforms for Middle Eastern hospitality buyers to meet world-class vendors of technology and finance solutions. Naseba's Hotel Technology Summit, organised in partnership with HFTP for the past three years, is one such platform. And now HITEC Dubai will provide an enhanced way for Middle Eastern hoteliers to do business with technology companies from around the world. In addition to the exhibition format seen at HITEC in the U.S., HITEC Dubai will feature a summit with one-to-one business meetings that have become the hallmark of Naseba's platforms. Hoteliers attending the summit portion of HITEC Dubai will be pre-qualified to confirm their purchasing authority, budgets, timelines and solutions of interest. For participating technology and finance companies, HITEC Dubai will therefore combine the best of two worlds: thought leadership and reaching the right buyers. The education sessions that have proven so popular at past editions of HITEC will also be a staple of HITEC Dubai, with experts from around the globe sharing key insights into the tech trends and transformations shaping today's global hospitality market."Over the past four and a half decades, HFTP has built an extensive network of global industry leaders that come together each year for HITEC, an unparalleled hospitality technology event," said HFTP CEO Frank Wolfe, CAE. "In effort to accommodate HFTP's expanding global audiences, HFTP and Naseba will bring HITEC to the Middle East for the first time. HFTP is pleased to continue its successful alliance with Naseba, and we are confident that combining experience and resources from two global associations will result in a highly effective event that will be of value to industry professionals located in the Middle East as well as the hospitality technology industry at large."Nicholas Watson, Managing Director at Naseba, said "We are proud to be partnering with HFTP to host the newest edition of HITEC, allowing leading technology and finance companies to access the world's fastest-growing hospitality market. We look forward to seeing contributions from not only CEOs of innovative companies and owners of established hotel brands, but also the directors, managers and executives who ensure the continued success of those organisations. Our partnership with HFTP has helped us to better serve the needs of the regional hospitality market. Bringing HITEC to the region for the first time will completely change the landscape of doing business in this market, and create exciting new opportunities for global vendors and Middle Eastern hotels."Registration for this unique platform will be available to all qualified hospitality professionals and technology vendors. To learn more about HITEC Middle East or to express your interest in attending, contact:Ryan Cooper Marketing Manager Naseba industry meetings ryan.cooper@naseba.com | +971 43671376About HFTPHospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP(r)) is a global nonprofit hospitality association, headquartered in Austin, Texas, USA, that uniquely understands the industry's problems. this is where her passion for the hospitality industry began. After graduation, Montgomery became a CPA while working at a large local firm, until she made her dream of combining hospitality and accounting come true. In 1991, Montgomery rejoined the hospitality world at Hotel del Coronado, where she spent 14 years working her way up from accounting manager to manager of financial planning and cash management. In 2007, HFTP Global Past President Tina Samson, CHAE, offered Montgomery the opportunity to work as a controller for Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando in Orlando, Florida USA. Montgomery credits Samson for her role as a mentor, encouraging CHAE certification as well as involvement with the HFTP Mid-Florida Chapter, where Montgomery is the current chapter president. Today, Montgomery works as area director of finance at Lowes Hotels at Universal Orlando where she oversees the day to day operations and financial reporting of five amazing resort properties."I am thrilled to be nominated CHAE of the Year, and I consider this one of the highest achievements of my career," said Montgomery. "As president of the Mid-Florida chapter, I have had the encouragement of my fellow members, my team at work, and the leaders of my company to be an active member. I think earning my CHAE was a demonstration to my team that you should never quit learning and growing in your chosen field. This achievement has inspired me to continue my growth as a member of this organization."Montgomery says that HFTP has elevated her personal and professional growth by providing her with opportunities to learn and network with peers on a monthly basis, as well as allowing her to meet and become friends with amazing people through her local HFTP chapter. The CHAE professional designation is an industry designation showing competency in the area of accounting, and is acknowledged throughout the hospitality industry as it elevates the professionalism of both the recipient and the industry. More than 1,500 hospitality accountants, from several countries, have earned the CHAE designation through HFTP since the certification program began in 1981.
